Baby Photographer Sussex

Photographing your baby is one of those things that we don't think too much about until you're sitting googling baby photographer Sussex and getting a little overwhelmed at the choices out there. It can be a minefield! So I thought that to make it easier I would give a little insight into the various different forms of baby photography that you might be seeing and hopefully help you narrow down what you're looking for in your photographer.

Posed or Natural?

So one of the main differences between baby photographers that you may have noticed is whether the shoot is made up of posed baby photography or natural baby photography. Posed photographers generally use a lot of different props and artificial lighting to achieve those 'perfectly swaddled in a plant pot' esque photos. Natural photographers such as myself generally have a more stripped back approach and aim to capture your little one with as little interference as possible in order to preserve those expressions and details as you will remember them.

The two styles are very different from each other. Neither posed or natural baby photography is 'correct'. It simply comes down to your taste and preference.

Studio, Lifestyle or Outdoors?

Again a personal preference choice coming up on this one.

Studio photography is where you will find nearly all posed baby photographers as they will have all their props and lighting on hand. The benefit of a studio setting that it is a controlled environment and you will likely be able to see from previous shoots what your photos will look like.

Lifestyle photography is where the photographer will come to your house or a location of your choosing for the photos and photograph in a way that reflects your everyday life.

Outdoor photographers will usually have a selection of outdoor locations where they enjoy shooting and you will meet at one of those for your baby photography.

Now you know a little about the differences between baby photographers it should be easier to find your perfect photographer!

I describe myself as a natural baby photographer and offer a very stripped back studio experience from my front room, with large floor to ceiling windows for all the beautiful natural light. However I also offer lifestyle baby photography if you would like it to be in your own home.

As an example I have added a few photos from a baby photography shoot I did where they couldn't travel very far, so we decided on using the beautifully light and neutral spare bedroom at her parents house to achieve a similar look and feel to if we had been able to have the baby photoshoot at my home studio.
