What are natural baby photoshoots?
Natural photography is really exactly as it states; photography that is kept as natural as possible i.e using natural sunlight, natural expressions and movements etc. It removes the often stiff existence of being positioned at a certain angle and smiling at the camera in an uncomfortable way (I always imagine Chandler doing his engagement photos in Friends) while artificial lights bare down at you.
When talking specifically of natural baby photography this is where I find the joy of letting the babies be themselves really shines through. From about 7 months old your baby will start to show off their personality and may be learning new facial expressions, touching their feet, rolling over and pulling themselves across the floor. Instead of restricting all these great new traits in order to get the 'perfect shot', natural baby photographers like myself will encourage your little one to have fun and aim to capture all of their personality coming out.
Baby photoshoots are often overshadowed by newborn photoshoots and as much as I love to capture those tiny tiny toes and milk drunk eyes at a couple of weeks old, the time between 7-12 months when this little human starts becoming their own person is my favourite time to capture. They change so much in that first year, more than they ever will again and I've had so many people that are grateful to have caught the fleeting personality quirks and adorable chubby thigh rolls before they start to walk.
By using natural light, neutral clothing and a few well chosen props the photos will remain timeless for years to come and create the perfect environment for your baby's character to stand out. My studio has a lovely South-Westerly facing floor to ceiling window to let in all the beautiful sunlight and a selection of gorgeous wooden toys and stuffed animals for the babies to play with.
